Message from the Director

It's my pleasure to be back in C.C.C. Kei Wai Primary School (Aldrich Bay) again this year and directed the new English Musical With Him. It is also very special because I finally got to see the students performing with their lovely smiles on stage this time.

The past three years had been a really tough time for both teachers, parents, and especially the students. It's really an amazing thing that life seems to be back to normal again, and the students finally have a chance to have a live performance this time. Rehearsing for a live performance is never easy. It takes a lot of hard work and a great heart because the process is hard! All of them have done a great job in facing all challenges and I hope that this experience will become a treasure to them in the future.

Thank you students for your hard work, and also a great applause to all the teachers involved. Without your great support the musical would never have succeeded!

Stay calm and carry on!

Message from the Composer

I Can Do All Things through HIM

If I were to use one word to describe my songwriting journey for my alma mater’s musical this time, it would be “venturesome”. Why? Read on and you‘ll find out.

After three years of pandemic, the society finally resumes its normality gradually. For me, besides continuing my one-on-one lesson teaching, resuming normality means training for my percussion band radically intensifies as we would once again be participating in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, after three years of hiatus. Getting the students back to competition mode is nowhere near easy and is often unpredictable, so eventually I could spend around 2% of my energy on musical songwriting and the rest on training up my band, from the day I received my alma mater‘s invitation to compose for this musical (heartfelt thanks for the returning invite!), to the day my band finished recording for the Music Festival.

With my composition time cut short to about half, nervousness inevitably rises within me. After all, time always goes by quicker than you imagine, and being done with the competition doesn’t mean my teaching stops! But thank God, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. (Isaiah 40:29)” No matter how tired I feel after a day of work or how I think I have no more juice to boost from my brain, God enables me to write night after night, little by little, like squeezing juice out of a piece of stone. So, the four songs from my hands, are the results from God‘s incessant flow of musical ideas, as well as strength and perseverance.

“I can do all things through HIM who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)”

Thank You God for Your marvellous and timely Providence; Your Grace is always sufficient regardless of circumstances. Thank you Kei Wan for your continuous trust. All the best to the performances of “With HIM”!

Message from the Composer

It fills my heart with joy to once again weave the melodies of a musical for my alma mater. As I immersed myself in the script, melodies danced within my mind, and a single tune emerged. "The First Day of School" was born, embodying my growth since my last collaboration. I sought to weave a tale that would ignite hearts, uplift spirits, and leave an indelible mark upon our shared experiences.
The creative process transported me to a realm where imagination reigned supreme. I envisioned children running with their laughter echoing on the stage. Each stroke of my pen aimed to paint the air with emotions, creating a tapestry of sound that resonates within souls. I yearned for the actors and actresses to breathe life into their characters, to embark on a collective journey of transformation and growth.

Embedded within this performance lies my personal narrative. Through the lyrical poetry of song, feel the anticipation, joy, tears, anger, and gratitude that weaves together our shared childhood and my own existence.
Though pursuing my studies in distant London, I overcome the distance, balancing academia and artistry. Witness the fruits of our labor and be reminded that belief in oneself can move mountains and inspire greatness.

As this chapter closes, I eagerly anticipate the next act, where new talents await their turn in the spotlight. I yearn to nurture their growth, witnessing their astonishment as they reflect on their accomplishments. Let us gather beneath the starlit canopy, united in our love for the arts. Together, we shall explore the extraordinary within the ordinary, creating a harmonious tapestry woven with passion and unwavering belief. Embark on this voyage with hearts entwined and spirits ablaze, for in the realm of art, possibilities are infinite and dreams are just a single note away.

Message from the Choreographer

Hi, I am Angus, choreographer for the musical! It is my great pleasure to be involved in this beautiful musical production. I have had so much fun working on the dance with all the students and I have enjoyed every single rehearsal with the students a lot!

Before working with the C.C.C. Kei Wan Primary School students, I have already heard this school is famous for its academic results as well as extra-curricular activities, so I do have some high expectations for the students before starting the dance. After working with them for more than half a year, I have discovered the students are not only talented, diligent, but they are also very helpful and self-driven!

I remembered there was a week where I taught them a challenging dance piece, and I didn’t remind them to practise at home afterwards. They came to me with excellent singing together with beautiful dance steps the week after and told me that they have practised very hard secretly and want to give me a surprise! I was very touched and it did remind me of my first day of dance and my first day of school too!

Thanks again to the school for this amazing opportunity! Wishing every student all the best for your musical performance and don’t forget to enjoy every moment in life!
